Best Kenya Coffees of 2024. Two new coffee drops!

Kenya

Two new coffee drops! The best Kenya coffees of 2024 we have tasted so far. Introducing our new Kagunyu AA Kenya and Kariaini AA Kenya! They are both quintessential Kenyas that should be added to your must-try list. Our Kariaini Kenya is buttery and crisp with tasting notes of raspberry jam, honey butter, and lilac. Our Kagunyu Kenya is plush and sweet-tart with tasting notes of black cherry, red currant, and maple.

About our Kariani Kenya. This coffee comes from smallholder farmers contributing to the Kariaini Factory in Kirinyaga County, Kenya. The Kariaini Factory is part of the Mwirua Farmers Cooperative Society which borders Mt. Kenya National Park. Kenya’s coffee is dominated by a cooperative system of coffee production, where members vote on representation, marketing, and milling, as well as profit allocation. Smallholder farmer members grow coffee in volcanic loam soil (coffee loves this!) in the famed Kirinyaga region which is known for producing some of Kenya’s best coffees. The Kariaini Factory ferments coffee for 18-48 hours depending on ambient conditions. After fermentation, coffee is washed and then dried on raised beds.

About our Kagunyu Kenya. This beautiful Kenya coffee is courtesy of 595 producers organized around the Kagunyu Factory. This particular lot was grown in the well-known Nyeri County where the volcanic soil and temperate climate, coupled with the coveted SL-28 and SL-34 coffee varieties, create notable and unique coffees with distinct currant and berry notes. This AA coffee is fully washed and was dried on raised beds. It is everything we love about a high-quality Kenya lot with notes of black cherry, red currant, maple, cranberry, and tangerine. We highly recommend.

Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.

  • Unparalleled quality. We won’t buy a coffee unless we know that it will inspire you.
  • A human story. Often times a producer’s story gets lost in the coffee supply chain. It’s our focus to provide a seed to cup experience, honoring everyone involved.
  • Sustainability. We purchase sustainable coffees directly from producers and through brokers who share our goal of making coffee a sustainable commodity. Financially and environmentally, the coffees we purchase seek balance.
