We are a Good Food Awards Finalist

Jan 8:  JBC Coffee Roasters (Madison, WI) is honored to announce that we have been named a 2024 Good Food Awards finalist with our coffee: La Candelilla Costa Rica Geisha Natural. The Good Food Awards is an annual competition recognizing outstanding American craft food producers. To be named a finalist, our coffee received one of the top tasting scores of over 1,650 entries and passed intensive sustainability vetting. “These exceptional producers have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to not only creating extraordinary flavors but also to sustainable practices, supporting their communities, and fostering transparency throughout their supply chains. This year’s Finalists are true leaders in the good food movement.” said Sarah Weiner, Executive Director of the Good Food Foundation. Additional Wisconsin food producers got a nod in the beer, cheese, grain, honey, and preserve categories. Here is the full list: 2024 Good Food Award Finalists.

This is the 6th time that JBC Coffee Roasters has been named a finalist. Winners for 2024 will be announced at the 14th annual Good Food Awards Weekend on April 29th in Portland Oregon.

About the coffee. La Candelilla was one of the very first micromills established in the popular coffee-growing region of Tarrazú in Costa Rica. It’s a collaboratively owned micromill, established by 7 smallholder producers who share ownership. This particular lot is from one of the founders of the mill, Ricardo Hernandez Naranjo, who was among the first to suggest to his farmer mates that they should start the “mini beneficio.” Don Ricardo has been growing coffee for 32 years, and is dedicated to quality and sustainability.

About JBC Coffee Roasters. JBC Coffee Roasters is an award-winning coffee roaster based in Madison. We are five time Good Food Award winners and were named one of the best coffee roasters in the nation by Forbes and Gear Patrol with over 340 90 plus rated coffees at the Coffee Review. The Chicago Tribune called JBC one of Wisconsin’s standout roasters and the Daily Meal said our espresso will elevate your mornings. We are focused on quality-driven, sustainable coffees.

  • Unparalleled quality. We won’t buy a coffee unless they know that it will inspire you.
  • A human story. Often times a producer’s story gets lost in the coffee supply chain. It’s our focus to provide a seed to cup experience, honoring everyone involved.
  • Sustainability. We purchase coffees directly from producers and through brokers who share their goal of making coffee a sustainable commodity. Financially and environmentally, the coffees we purchase seek balance.
