Two new coffees from Guji Ethiopia! One natural processed, one washed. Both divine!
Tebe Melge Ethiopia. A fruity new natural process Ethiopia! This coffee comes from smallholder farmers growing coffee in the highest reaches of Guji’s vast Uraga forest region. It’s everything we love about a beautifully done natural process coffee with bright strawberry, peach, blue raspberry, passion fruit, and vanilla notes. It’s ultra fruity yet also clean and not over processed. If you’re looking for the sparkling fruit notes that often accompany a natural process coffee with out the ferment/process-like notes, this coffee is for you. We highly recommend!
About. Our Tebe Melge is grown between 1900-2300 meters in a microclimate that is optimum for coffee growing with long, cool nights that slow cherry maturation, leading to complex fruit notes and increased sweetness. Near the Yirgacheffe region, this coffee was once trucked over the border to be sold as Yirgacheffe coffee. Over a decade a go, however, Aleco Chigounis (co-founder of Red Fox Coffee Merchants and our partner in sourcing this coffee) tasted the coffees of Guji and knew they were unique and deserving of differentiation. Today, this region is world-famous for producing some of the world’s best coffees and this natural process lot is a prime example of the beautiful coffees coming out of Guji.
Biru Bekele Ethiopia. We love this new sparkly and juicy washed Ethiopia. A watermelon note? Say no more! This washed Ethiopia is classic yet unique, elegant yet approachable with lovely florals and complex fruit notes. We tasted apricot nectar, watermelon lemonade, green tea, and rosehip jam. It’s delicious and representative of all that we love about a classic and high quality washed Ethiopia coffee!
About. This coffee comes from smallholder farmers who deliver their ripe cherry to the Biru Bekele Washing Station in Guji, Ethiopia. The station is named after its founder, Biru Bekele, who nearly 20 years ago recognized the potential of the region for growing amazing coffees and sought to even further elevate the coffee produced there. As noted above, the Guji region of Ethiopia is known for producing some of the world’s best coffees and visionaries such as Biru Bekele have created even further processes at the washing station level to ensure remarkable and unique coffees.
Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.
