Over 1200 smallholder farmers deliver ripe coffee cherry to the Shanta Golba washing station in the Bensa region of Sidama, Ethiopia. Shanta Golba employs extremely strict ripe cherry specifications to ensure high quality as well as only using the middle to end of harvest for their high grade offerings as the best coffees are typically the highest elevation coffees (which ripen last.) Coffee in Ethiopia is typically grown on small plots of land intercropped with other crops like enset, banana, oranges, and other indigenous natural shade trees. Intercropping benefits not only the coffee (producing a higher grade product) but also the environment. Traditional growing practices in Ethiopia do not employ the use of fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides. This particular lot of coffee is everything we love about a traditional washed Ethiopia coffee with a nice little pop of orange. It’s crisp and silky with tasting notes of clover honey, orange aperol spritz, and gardenia. Enjoy!
