The Kateshi Coffee Estate is one of the very first coffee estates established in Zambia in 1972. At the time, its wet processing facilities were at the heart of coffee production in northern Zambia and they continue to be a central processing plant for the region. Owned and operated by our friends at Covoya Specialty Coffee, local community is at the forefront of the estate’s vision. Covoya provides daily access to safe drinking water to over 20,000 locals and supports 3 area schools that educate over 1500 students. There is also a health clinic on site that provides free basic healthcare to over 4,000 community members, averaging 95 patients per day. Notably, Kateshi has been at the forefront of boldly challenging gender stereotypes in Zambia. They are the first an only coffee estate to employ women in traditionally male-dominated roles such as driving tractors, bull dozers, and road graders. This is the first Zambia coffee JBC Coffee Roasters has sold and it does not disappoint. We love the unique banana note in this coffee (think banana runts!), along with tasting notes of sweet pineapple, wildflower honey, and apple. It’s delicious!
