New Peru Coffee!
A must-try gesha-like Peru! The cupping of this coffee started with the disclaimer, “We’re pretty stocked up on coffees, so we’ll really have to love something on this table in order to buy it.” Turns out, we really loved this coffee: our new Alto Lagunillas Peru by Wilson Sucaticona. This particular lot (Bourbon #2) is composed solely of the Bourbon variety which is known for its high cup value & sweetness. When we tasted this coffee we immediately fell in love with its geisha/gesha-like florality and complex fruit notes that range from tropical fruit to sweet citrus to red fruit. It’s sweet and vibrant with tasting notes of cherry blossom, jasmine, golden plum, and vanilla. We highly recommend this coffee for everyone who enjoys a classic washed coffee with elegant floral and fruit notes!
Producer Wilson Sucaticona was born on the Peruvian side of the Peru-Bolivian border, in the city of Conima. This highland border in Southern Peru used to be completely unregulated, and Wilson’s father and grandfather worked producing coffee on the Bolivian side. In the early 1950’s, the borders became more controlled and it wasn’t as easy to go back and forth for work. Wilson’s family decided to migrate. They walked through the mountains for two weeks, starting in the city of Tilali (near Conima), through the district of Cojate, into Sandia and then onto San Juan del Oro until arriving in San Pedro de Putina Punco, where Wilson’s family settled. Wilson’s father began producing coffee in Putina Punco, and Wilson continues to produce coffee on this land to this day. In addition to the land he inherited, Wilson purchased more land to expand his coffee production area. Wilson’s farm, Alto Lagunillas, is named after a small lake at the top of his property, where “Alto” is the Spanish word for high, and “Lagunilla” means little lake.
Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.
