There is not much that rivals the elegance of a classic washed Ethiopia coffee and we have just the one to introduce: our Kolla Bolcha #6. We called this coffee playful and lyrical. It’s bright and silky with tasting notes of cherry preserves, watermelon, white honey, and violet. We give a chef’s kiss to this lovely coffee and highly recommend it for any and all lovers of a refined washed Ethiopia.
About the Kolla Bolcha Washing Station. Our Kolla Bolcha #6 comes from 759 smallholder farmers in Ethiopia’s Agaro region in Oromia who contribute their ripe coffee cherries to the Kolla Bolcha washing station. Coffees here are washed and mechanically depulped, then soaked overnight and fermented. After fermentation, coffee is dried for 6 to 8 hours a day over 6 to 8 days on raised beds, with frequent turning for even drying. The farms contributing to the Kolla Bolcha washing station are located in soaring altitudes 1900-2200 meters above sea level. The community’s main source of income is coffee. Farmers here intercrop with false banana trees and maize for shade and coffee is grown in highly fertile sandy loam with good water retention and drainage. Coffee crops are thus self sufficient (with proper planting practices) and don’t require fertilizer. Traditional growing practices are also organic (with no pesticides or herbicides used). The farmers here belong to the Oromo people and speak Oromo. They maintain certain ancestral customs and have a quiet lifestyle built almost entirely around coffee farming.
Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.
