A new syrupy and juicy coffee from Burundi! This particular lot is part of Kibingo Washing station’s microlot program where specific coffees are isolated out due to superior cup quality. Our new Kibingo Burundi embodies all that we admire about the classic Burundi profile-it’s bright, juicy, and laden with complex dried tropical fruit notes. It’s almost as if someone took a plush Kenya coffee then added the lovely citric floral notes of an Ethiopian coupled with the green hoppy notes of a Rwanda coffee-all rolled up into one pleasant and easy-sipping coffee. This coffee exhibits tasting notes of ginger peach puree, honeycrisp apple, panela, and lemongrass. We highly recommend for lovers of Rwanda and/or Burundi coffee profiles who appreciate gingery tropical fruit notes in their morning cup. Enjoy!
Farm Level Info. There are over 3,500 smallholder farmers living around Kayanza who deliver their coffee cherry to the Kibingo washing station (operated by Greenco) in northern Burundi near the Kibira National Park. In addition to operating 13 washing stations in Burundi and processing excellent coffee, Greenco also works with communities to increase farmer livelihoods and general equality in coffee producing areas. They give washing stations and producers support all along the production chain and provide a number of educational opportunities and social programs to the surrounding community. Their average cherry buying price is significantly above average and farmers are additionally rewarded for quality initiatives. During the harvest season, coffee is selectively hand-picked. Most families only have around 200 to 250 coffee trees and harvesting is done almost entirely by the family after which it is delivered to the Kibingo washing station. Cherry is then pulped and separated by density into high and low grade. Once pulped, coffee is then fermented and run through washing and grading channels and sorted once again by density. After several more steps, including a drying and a resting period, coffee is then sent off for dry milling and export.
Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.
