New Coffee! Busasa Burundi

A new coffee from Burundi! Introducing our new Busasa Burundi. It’s like a little cup of Christmas in summer. This unique coffee is full of lovely tasting and aroma notes like cranberry, butterscotch, apple crumble, dried cherry, and sweet pea. We think it’s a little bit Christmasy with nice pops of cinnamon and red fruits but also a little summery with tasting notes of cherry, citrus, and sweet pea. It’s sweet-tart, plush, and highly enjoyable. We recommend it for any and all lovers of the classic Burundi profile featuring lovely red fruit notes with a little sweet green note.

About. This coffee was grown by smallholder farmers located in the Muyinga Province of northeastern Burundi who contribute their ripe coffee cherry to the Busasa Washing Station. The station sources coffee from 1600 farmers in the surrounding area and features 151 drying beds. Perhaps most notably, Busasa’s staff enjoys wages nearly 60% higher than the average Burundi wages, while producers receive a 20% premium above the local market rate for their coffee cherry. This particular lot of coffee (lot 334) was isolated out as a top quality lot and is a testament to the strides Burundi has taken to elevate their coffee quality.

Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.

  • Unparalleled quality. We won’t buy a coffee unless we know that it will inspire you.
  • A human story. Often times a producer’s story gets lost in the coffee supply chain. It’s our focus to provide a seed to cup experience, honoring everyone involved.
  • Sustainability. We purchase sustainable coffees directly from producers and through brokers who share our goal of making coffee a sustainable commodity. Financially and environmentally, the coffees we purchase seek balance.
