Our first Geisha variety from Tanzania! Introducing our Acacia Hills Tanzania Geisha. It’s a charmer. We love this coffee for its super perfumy deep floral notes that we would expect from a high quality Geisha variety but it also boasts lovely berry jam and currant notes that can be reminiscent of coffees from Tanzania. We said things like “wow” and “so elegant” and tasted jasmine, peach blossom, raspberry jam, lemongrass, and orange marmalade. It’s a refined and distinguished coffee for anyone who loves high end complex fruit and floral notes in their cup. We highly recommend!
About the Farm. Acacia Hills is a coffee farm in Tanzania run by 3rd generation coffee farmer Leon Christianakis who purchased the farm in 2007. Although rundown at the time of purchase, Christianakis saw the potential for transforming Acacia Hills into a quality-focused coffee farm that specializes in high end and distinct coffee varieties. After rehabilitating the farm, they planted their first Geisha/Gesha lot in 2012, subsequently adding additional coffee varieties like Pacamara, SL-28, and Castillo. They have since doubled their coffee acreage from 150 acres to 300 acres and increased their workforce from 7 people to an average of 140 people daily. They have also implemented a number practices that improve coffee quality including staff education (teaching the importance of picking only red ripe cherry and sorting coffees), the construction of shaded raised drying beds, and a quality control team that follows the coffee from pick to dry mill all while monitoring moisture levels and processing procedures. Leon also believes strongly in investing in his community. When he first purchased Acacia Hills, he noticed people walking four kilometers to fill up 20L containers of water. So Leon, together with a neighboring farm, developed a water infrastructure in Oldeani. They installed a water supply system on two farms and set up a pipeline that uses gravity to transport water to a water tank in the village.
Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.
