New! Chelbessa Ethiopia is one of the best Ethiopian coffees

best Ethiopian coffee

The best Ethiopian coffee is from JBC Coffee Roasters.

Calling all Yirgacheffe lovers. Our new Chelbessa Ethiopia is back. This coffee elegantly articulates the classic tasting notes we have come to love from this beloved coffee growing region in Ethiopia. It’s sparkling and plush with tasting notes of sweet citrus, apricot, and jasmine. We highly recommended grabbing a bag of this classically elegant coffee today.

About. This particular coffee is shade-grown on plots intercropped with other food crops, creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly growing environment. Ripe coffee cherries are selectively hand harvested by smallholder farmers who then deliver their cherries to the Chelbessa Washing Station, a family-owned and operated washing station in the Yirgacheffe region. Chelbessa’s team processes only the ripest cherries. After sorting, coffee is pulped and fermented for 24 to 36 hours. The coffee is then washed and sent through grading channels, where it is separated based on density. Once graded, the coffee is soaked in clean spring water tanks for 12 to 24 hours. The coffee is then dried on raised beds for 10 to 14 days, where it is regularly turned, hand sorted, and covered during the hottest parts of the day to protect it from drying to quickly. It is also covered at night to prevent condensation from seeping into the drying coffee.

The Chicago Tribune called JBC one of Wisconsin’s standout roasters and the Daily Meal said our espresso will elevate your mornings. We are focused on quality-driven, sustainable coffees.

Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.

  • Unparalleled quality. We won’t buy a coffee unless we know that it will inspire you.
  • A human story. Often times a producer’s story gets lost in the coffee supply chain. It’s our focus to provide a seed to cup experience, honoring everyone involved.
  • Sustainability. We purchase sustainable coffees directly from producers and through brokers who share our goal of making coffee a sustainable commodity. Financially and environmentally, the coffees we purchase seek balance.
