A New Kenya Peaberry!

Kamagogo Peaberry

You know when JBC owner Laura says, “Oh that’s fun” and JBC founder Michael exclaims “zingy!” that you have another stunner of a coffee. Our new Kamagogo Kenya is a lovely example of a berry forward Kenya with a little racy kick. Comprised soley of peaberry coffee seeds, this beautiful coffee boasts tasting notes of blackberry, vanilla, apple cranberry compote, and hibiscus. If you love the classic Kenya profile with a crisp kick, this coffee is for you.

Peaberry explained. A peaberry is when only one small round bean forms inside the coffee cherry rather than the usual two. Peaberries are often separated out from regular beans to sell as a distinct grade of coffee because of their elevated and unique cup profile.

Farm Level Info. This coffee was grown by smallholder farmers in central Kenya contributing to the Kamagogo Coffee Factory, a washing station that is part of the Kiru Farmer’s Cooperative Society. Farmers deliver their ripe coffee cherry to the factory where the cherry is then hand sorted, depulped, fermented overnight, and laid out on raised beds to dry where it is then hand sorted again for defects. Kamagogo works with local farmers by providing education on good agricultural practices, providing access to inputs to improve growing practices, and offering pre-financing options. This particular lot of coffee was isolated out as a top lot for its exceptional flavor, acidity, and body.

Learn more about JBC, five time Good Food Award winners and named one of the best coffee roasters in the U.S. by Forbes and Gear Patrol with over 340 90 plus rated coffees at the Coffee Review. The Chicago Tribune called JBC one of Wisconsin’s standout roasters and the Daily Meal said our espresso will elevate your mornings. We are focused on quality-driven, sustainable coffees.

Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.

  • Unparalleled quality. We won’t buy a coffee unless we know that it will inspire you.
  • A human story. Often times a producer’s story gets lost in the coffee supply chain. It’s our focus to provide a seed to cup experience, honoring everyone involved.
  • Sustainability. We purchase sustainable coffees directly from producers and through brokers who share our goal of making coffee a sustainable commodity. Financially and environmentally, the coffees we purchase seek balance.
