We are excited to introduce this new Tanzania offering which is super silky, crisp, and complex with tasting notes of mixed berry, ginger, ruby chocolate, magnolia blossom, and honey. It is delicious and reflective of the strides that Tanzania has been taking in recent years to improve their coffee quality. In the past, Tanzanian smallholder farmers in the Mbeya region would typically process their coffee at home with a depulping style similar to that of Indonesia’s wet hulling process. Unfortunately, this approach led to rapidly aging coffees and unfavorable flavor profiles. Thankfully, however, Tanzanian coffee producers have embraced innovation in recent years and transitioned to practices that mirror coffee-producing countries like Kenya and Ethiopia, utilizing Penagos ecopulpers and meticulously maintained clean washing channels. The result has been a considerable uptick in the amount of specialty coffee coming out of Tanzania and more roasters like ourselves excited to carry and introduce coffees from Tanzania.
